Charpentier’s Messe de Minuit: annual reading

Free to members; others by donationThe annual reading of Charpentier’s Messe de Minuit (1690), an EMSNS holiday tradition, returns this year on Saturday, December 28. Andrew Pickett, countertenor, Early Music expert, and former president of the Early Music Society of Nova Scotia, will conduct.Â
Marc-Antoine Charpentier (1643 – 1704) was a prolific and celebrated French composer of the Baroque era, who brought Italian influences to bear on French music and who collaborated with Molière on the Parisian stage.Â
The Messe de Minuit reading is free for EMSNS members. Non-members are welcome by donation.Â
All singers and instrumentalists are welcome (Pitch 440). While not necessary to attend, interested persons are asked to indicate their intention to participate by e-mailing earlymusicns@gmail.com by Friday, December 23.
