AGM – Annual General Meeting

SAVE THE DATE!!
ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING – SUNDAY, JUNE 7Annual General Meeting of the Society
St. Margaret of Scotland Church basement
3751 Robie Street, HalifaxThe Early Music Society of Nova Scotia’s Annual General Meeting will be held on Sunday, June 7. It will take place from 4 to 5:30 pm, at St. Margaret of Scotland Church, 3751 Robie Street, Halifax. Please enter through the side door off the driveway on the downhill side of the church. The bylaws of the Society state that an annual general meeting (AGM) shall be held within three months after every fiscal year-end, and that notice of the meeting is to be sent to the membership at least seven days prior to the meeting.
One of the more important items that will be presented at this year’s AGM will be an update to the statement of purposes of the Society that we provide to Canada Revenue Agency to maintain our charitable status. This is not boring housekeeping! It is necessary because CRA’s requirements today demand much more detail than was in our Memorandum of Association, drafted in 1981 when the society was formed.
A copy of the analysis and proposed amendments will be sent to the members seven working days before the AGM, as required by our bylaws. The members will be asked to vote on any changes through a special resolution.
The AGM is also an opportunity to learn about the Society’s activities over the past year, and participate in elections for the board. Our small board reflects the vitality of our early music community, and values new ideas, fresh energy and diverse perspectives. Consider becoming a board member, as there is always room for new voices!
