HITEM Open Workshop on the Traditional Music of Sweden with special guest Stefan Ekedahl

October 20, 2024 @ 1:45 pm - 3:15 pm
$25

Halifax Institute of Traditional and Early Music presents:

Bring your instruments and join our HITEM Trad Ensemble in this special open class featuring multi-instrumentalist and traditional instrument maker Stefan Ekedahl. We will learn some fantastic traditional Swedish tunes by ear together. We will also learn about the different types of tunes from different regions in Sweden, how they were performed historically and how they are still performed and innovated on today. The Swedish folk music scene shares somethings in common with Celtic-related genres such as Irish, Cape Breton, Old-Time, etc. and yet it is a rich scene with a character all of its own. Any fiddler or other instrumentalist from any of the traditional genres commonly played in Nova Scotia will find this a fascinating glimpse into Nordic music, culture, and community.

General admission by freewill donation ($25 suggested).
Free admission to members of HITEM and sponsoring organizations; donations welcome in any case.
Pre-register at: info@tradandearlymusic.ca or through our Contact page. Walk-ins also welcome.
